Northampton landlady to deliver pints of Guinness to regulars to celebrate St Patrick’s Day

A Northampton landlady who has constantly helped the community during the pandemic is planning to deliver dozens of pints of Guinness to regulars today (March 17).

Teresa McCarthy-Dixon runs the Swan and Helmet pub in Abington and has done for the last 14-and-a-half years.

The landlady has delivered meals to vulnerable people during the pandemic, launched a weekly food larder and more to help her community.

Now she is helping her regular customers to celebrate St Patrick’s Day by delivering ‘proper pints of Guinness’ to their homes.

Teresa, who is originally from County Kerry, Republic of Ireland but moved to Northampton 19 years ago, said: “Die hard Irish people will want a proper pint of Guinness on St Patrick’s Day, so I will have surger in the car and take a pint round to my regulars.

“It has been OKed by the licenser so I will be delivering throughout the day to help the community celebrate St Patrick’s Day.

“It’s a celebration of who we are and what we stand for, which is that sense of community and working together.

“Irish people are proud of our roots and also proud to have settled in Northampton at the same time.

“And this is the day that Irish people all over the world come together to celebrate the special day and we just want to help people to celebrate during these times.”

The landlady has also created a virtual video talking to around ten elderly, Irish people in the community about their stories and their experiences of moving to Northampton.

These videos will be posted on social media at midday today (March 17).
