Hide AdRumours had been circulating for months about what would replace Homebase but Quantum Construction, the firm undertaking the work, has confirmed them.
A post on its website says: "The works should provide the local community with attractive retail amenities for years to come."
The existing building will be partly torn down, stripped out and modified to include a rear loading bay with ramp, two new signage towers and canopy with new windows and doors.
Externally there will be new lighting, paving and landscaping, while the car park will be resurfaced.
The large site on Weedon Road had been redundant for more than a year after Homebase closed in early 2019 and Argos moved into the nearby Sainsbury's in 2018.
