Teachers in Northamptonshire took nearly 17,000 days off sick last year.
But those in county schools took fewer days off than teachers in other schools across the East Midlands.

And in Northamptonshire the number of sick days fell for the third year running.

The Government's Department of Children, Schools and Families said county teachers called in sick on 16,780 days in 2007.

The figure had improved on previous years, falling from 19,400 in 2006 and 20,700 in 2005.

Northamptonshire teachers fared well in comparison with other counties.

Staff in Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire all took more than 30,000 days off sick in 2007.

Staff in Nottinghamshire topped the East Midlands' league with more than 46,900 absences.

There are 5,950 teachers working in Northamptonshire and of those 2,060 took time off sick.

About 6,000 of the days were accounted for by long-term absences.

Less than 3 days per teacher per annum - seems well within the national average of sickness.

considering that teachers work in a, double glazing, centrally heated environment, and exposed to the sniffs and sneezes etc of children [including my own wee man] i find this remarkably low, and just another star for teacher, top marks.
