Almost 200 Northampton schoolchildren had a smashing time in their music lesson by helping to break a world record.
The 190 pupils at Duston Eldean School, Duston, Northampton, started singing Des'ree's hit song You Gotta Be at 2.45pm yesterday at the same time as some 600,000 other children across the country.
Although the record is yet to be ratified by Guinness World Records, organisers are confident they have beaten the previous record of 293, 978.
Linda Miller, the music co-ordinator at Duston Eldean School, said: "As well as the children, the staff all joined in and we were really thrilled to be part of it."
The national attempt was led by Des'ree herself who sang her song accompanied by thousands of school children at London's O2 arena.
The event also aimed to raise awareness of cancer charities Marie Curie Cancer Care and CLIC Sargent.
