The police are now treating the post as a hate crime

A crime has been reported to police after a racially motivated post by one social media user was left in a Northampton selling group.

The comment was posted in ‘things for sale in Northampton for genuine people 2’ on Thursday (June 4).

The offensive post was quickly reported and then deleted by the admin of the group, and was later reported to the police.

Northamptonshire Police confirmed that the incident has been reported to them

A spokeswoman for the force said: “The incident has been reported to us and is being investigated as a hate crime.

“It relates to an offensive social media post which appeared on a local community group page.”

Northampton Chronicle & Echo has not ‘named and shamed’ the social media user in question as it could affect the process of bringing them to justice.

If the matter is taken further, we will follow the case and when it is legally safe to do so, we will name the social media user.
