Customers' sadness as popular cocktail bar in Northampton closes
Hakamou - which is housed in the basement of a premises near the Abington Street entrance to the Grosvenor Centre - was popular with patrons for its large array of exotically named drinks and unashamedly cheesy music.
A statement on its Facebook page said: “Northamptonians and rum fans, it is with considerable sadness that we announce the closure of Northampton Hakamou after six-and-a-half fantastic years.

“Our fantastic team will be found at our other places, but if they apply for a job at your work then snap them up and show them the love.”
“Please feel free to shout “ALAN!” If you see me around town. Hugs and fives. Martin”
The owners of Hakamous also run the Haycock and Tailbar Associates bar and restaurant in Derngate, as well as a Hakamou in Leicester.

Many commented on the lack of drunken trouble that set it apart from other venues in the town and the happy atmosphere generated by the bar staff.
Several photos depicting fond memories also showed customers lounging on the deckchairs outside the entrance, which were put out in all weathers.
DJ Jason Willson said: “It was a pleasure mixing up the tunes for you all in Hakamou’s for about three years in the early days. I’ve got some fun memories there and of course we have had some awesome nights.”
Ian Tompkins, head of security said: “I’ve had a blast. Met some fab customers (you know who you are), the staff are like family and I can honestly say I’ve enjoyed keeping you all safe.”
