Glowsticks are a must at a charity event next month where all funds will be donated to Peaches Womb Cancer Trust

A Northampton woman is making it her mission to raise thousands of pounds for a charity close to her family's heart.

Sarah Shapcott, from Duston, found out in May that her mum Sally Spencer, who has now retired from Triology Leisure, had late-stage cancer.

Sally had no common symptons and presented to the GP with tummy pains and bloating.

After several scans, biopsies and blood tests she was diagnosed with endometrial cancer.

Sarah said: "My mum was diagnosed as we went into lockdown with Stage 4 womb cancer.

"It came out of nowhere - she went to the doctors with some tummy pains and a few weeks later she had a diagnosis.

"Womb cancer is the fourth biggest gynaecological killer in women. We all know about having smear tests and we check our boobs but we don't know about our wombs."

Sally has started chemotherapy treatment to try and manage the cancer and awaits further scans and tests in a couple of weeks.

After recieving the heartbreaking news, Sarah wanted to do all she could to raise money to help find a cure for the disease.

She has decided to host a Clubbercise event - which she and her mum enjoy doing together - that will be held on Saturday, September 5 at Duston Sports Centre.

She added: "I wanted to raise some money for some people who are doing some research and I found a charity called Peaches Womb Cancer Trust in Manchester doing early detection in womb cancer.

"My mum and I used to go to Clubbercise together and my instructor said lets do a one-off event to raise some money.

"For me it's really about raising awareness, getting people talking about their bodies and raising some money for further research.

"It's something that I've started and it's building momentum all the time, which is great."

Sarah is raising money on Just Giving - which has so-far topped £1,600 - and she is selling merchandise on Facebook including mugs for £4 and face masks for £5 to increase donations.
